8 Essential makeup tips

I recently wrote these tips for a friend who is publishing an ‘inspirational’ journal for women going through & recovering from Cancer treatment. I thought I would share them on my blog as they are relevant to any women who wants to look & feel good- plus I know that everyone loves makeup tips!

  1.  Concealer can instantly erase tiredness. To brighten your eyes apply it under the eye area & on the inner corners of the eye, gently blending out with a small brush or your finger tip. To cover blemishes tap concealer lightly over the affected area & follow with a dab of foundation. TIP- My fave concealer is by Osmosis

  2. Using a BB Cream or Tinted Moisturizer is a quick & easy way to even out your skintone, while adding colour & warmth. Always choose a shade that is a little warmer than your natural skin colour as your face is always a tad lighter than your body- particularly in the summer. TIP-I personally love Cliniques Moisture Surge CC Cream

  3. A quick dusting of mineral powder over the top of your tinted moisturizer will smooth out imperfections & cut back redness, giving your skin a beautiful satiny finish. You can build up as much coverage as you like by applying the powder with a blusher brush using circular movements. Dont forget that mineral powder is a great body makeup too. TIP-I cant live without Osmosis Pressed Base mineral powder.

  4. When applying mascara take care to layer it on to the lashes while they are still wet to avoid ‘clumping’. If your lashes are short or sparse you can create the illusion of hair by lining the eyes with a brown or black pencil as close to the lashline as possible. Smudging the line with a powder shadow will soften the line & make it last. TIP-My ultimate mascara is Cliniques Extreme Volume, its awesome!

  5. Use a soft eye brow pencil to fill in sparse areas on your brow line, drawing with short hair-like strokes to create a natural effect. A small sharp brush & brown powder shadow is also a great way to fill in the brows & create definition.TIP-Elizabeth Arden Sable Brow Makeup is an all time favorite product of mine.

  6. Light to medium lipsticks are the most flattering, especially if you are over 40, as bright colours exaggerate imperfections (like yellow teeth & lines round the mouth) To make lips look fuller choose a lipstick with a creamy formula & add a touch of gloss to create the illusion of fullness. To make lippy last & prevent bleeding, fill in your lips with a pencil followed by your lipstick. TIP-You cant go wrong with Bobbi Brown lipsticks.

  7. Blusher is an instant face brightener- warm shades of pinky brown & taupe work well on olive skin while sandy pink & apricot add colour to fair skin. Apply your blush with a large, natural haired brush using circular strokes across the cheeks, add a dusting of shimmer powder high on the cheebone for extra brightness (& a bit of glamour!) TIP-You cant beat MAC blushers

  8. To create the illusion of a sunkissed complexion apply some bronzer to the high points of the face where the sun hits -thats the forehead, cheeks & chin. Choose a bronzer in a soft matte brown shade (rather than a glittery orange) for the most natural finish. TIP-My fave matte bronzer is by Bobbi Brown
